In industrial and commercial environments, machines continuously generate streams of instantaneous power data (kW).
While this real-time information is essential for operational monitoring, it does not directly answer one of the most important business questions:
How much energy are we actually consuming over time?
Is the consumed energy increasing?
Energy consumption is one of the most critical indicators of machine health, efficiency, and operating cost. Without accurate energy tracking, inefficiencies can go undetected for extended periods, leading to unnecessary costs and potential compliance issues.
With this Insight, OEMs and operators can:
Monitor energy trends over time.
Identify anomalies such as unexpected consumption spikes that may signal mechanical wear or process inefficiencies.
Support sustainability and carbon footprint reporting.
Provide end customers with transparent and accurate energy usage data, and meet regulatory requirements related to energy efficiency and environmental impact.
The insight is calculated daily by integrating the instantaneous power over time, and it is automatically converted to kWh to compute the Total Daily and Cumulative Total energy.
This feature is available for the following modules:
VALUE-ADDED DIGITAL SERVICES, CONNECTED FIELD SERVICES
Inputs
Here is the list of inputs required by this Algorithm.

Insight Metric Configuration
To use this Algorithm in an Insight Metric, you need to:
Go to the Insight / Insight Metrics page.
Select the Thing Definitions tab.
Select the Thing Definition where to create the insight metric.
Click the Add Metric button.
Select the Energy algorithm.
Configure the Algorithm required inputs.
Select the output for which you want to calculate the metric.
Displaying Insight Values
You can use any widget supporting metric data loading, for instance:
Value: to display a single value, also aggregated over a period.
Benchmark: to compare your machine with similar ones.
Time Series Chart: to display the trend over a period.
