To define digital servitization we want to refer to this article “What is Digital Servitization?” (Field Service News) by Dr Christian Kowalkowski.
“Digital servitization refers to the utilisation of digital technologies for the transformation whereby a company shifts from a product-centric to a service-centric business model.”
Digital servitization is thus a particular type of servitization in which the use of digital technologies, and in particular IoT, has a predominant contribution.
Non-digital vs Digital Servitization
The definition of digital servitization, in theory, leaves room for non-digital, or analog, servitization. However, the enormous advantages given by digital technologies and their affordability imply that, as a matter of fact, the vast majority of servitization initiatives are “digital”.
